GynoCart Eliminates Waiting

Three years ago in the Emergency Department at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, an OBGYN was training residents to perform pelvic exams. Women patients were waiting for the appropriate stretcher outfitted with stirrups so the exam could be performed correctly. The physician studied the ED. He noted that long wait times for the relatively short exam ranged from one to three hours. He also noticed the impact the wait for the right equipment had on the ED waiting room. The physician proposed a solution that would make the ED more efficient, provide increased comfort to his patients, and reduce wait times.

His solution was to make every stretcher or bed in the ED a place where pelvic exams could be performed. His solution is called GynoCart, a mobile OBGYN office
